"This girl is on fire! About two months ago, I wrapped up one of the most amazing journeys of my life. I closed on my very first home. Finding and buying your first home is a hair-raising experience under any circumstances. Finding and buying your first home in the present market is exponentially more hair-raising. Finding and buying your first home in the present market when you use a large power wheelchair is plain insanity.

I had been living in a fairly nice apartment in a sizeable complex in a downtown environment in Chittenden County for about 12 years. It was a nice unit that was quite accessible and set up well for me, but several years ago I decided I was sick of renting and that I was ready to have my own place. A friend connected me with Kristen, and so began our journey!

I was not an easy client. My accessibility needs were one thing, but I also had other "needs" as well...and many of these needs/priorities changed over time. At first, I thought I wanted a single -family home in Chittenden County that wasn't too rural. Very tall order, considering that most of the existing single-floor housing stock in Chittenden are 1950s-1960s era ranches with narrow hallways and doorways that would never work for my wheelchair. But Kristen pulled a rabbit out of the hat more times than I can even remember and found places that were pretty nearly exactly what we had talked about.

Often, for me to get in to see places, we had to be creative about figuring out how I was going to navigate a step or three (or other less-than-fully-accessible architectural features). Kristen was always up for the challenge! Her can-do spirit is beyond compare.

In the early chapters of my search, I would inevitably get cold feet for one reason or another or decide it would be too much work to do the renovations that would be required to make a place fully accessible. I would eventually lose my own drive to continue the search for several months (or more) and just "go dark" on Kristen for a while.

This is what makes Kristen the most spectacular realtor (and, more so, one of the most spectacular humans) I've ever met: she never gave up on me...even when I disappeared on her for a while. In fact, with each iteration of our search, her drive to find me the perfect home just grew stronger.

In the end, of course, she succeeded! Her tenacity and raw determination prevailed. One day this spring she called me and said, "Ben! I just saw a place that we need to go see TODAY!" Sure enough, it was the place we had been looking for since the beginning: wide open floor plan, tons of space, and a great neighborhood. And to cap it off, there was even an electric lift in the garage up to the kitchen door for my wheelchair!!! We put an offer in that day, and I moved in two months later.

After six weeks of living here, I can say without reservation that my new home is perfect in every way.

Yes, Kristen is a superb realtor who embodies the ideals of her profession in epic fashion. But she is also a class act in every way.
